Civil Rights Is Not A Ballot Issue

I find it ironic that Civil Rights on the Gay Marriage issue is continually being put on the ballot in many states. I would have thought that we would have learned from history that the rights of the minority are often trampled by the narrow views of the majority. Certainly our history post Civil War should have taught us that. The Maine defeat is yet another example that narrow minded voters vote from a place of ignorance and fear.
